Housing During Break

  • Required if you are not staying for the entire break.
  • A detailed explanation for reasoning of request is required for consideration.
  • Break Housing Policies for residents remaining on the Thomas College campus over break:

As it is a privilege for you to stay here during break, the following guidelines are in effect for the dates indicated you are allowed in housing as approved.
    • MANDATORY MEETING: Students granted an exception to remain in housing over breaks must attend a mandatory break housing meeting in order to review policies, sign the Break Housing Agreement and pick up their break pass. Failure to attend this meeting may result in loss of break housing privileges.
    • PARKING: Vehicle must be registered with Public Safety and parked in designated break housing parking. Bartlett/Village B residents must park in the center area of the lot behind Bartlett Hall – either of the two rows of parking. Village A must park along the grass line on Road Side.
    • SNOW REMOVAL: In the event of the need for snow removal, students are responsible to check e-mail for times to move cars. Failure to move cars during this time will result in normal ticketing by Public Safety.
    • QUIET HOURS: 24 courtesy hours are in effect during all breaks. Quiet hours are in effect from 10:00pm to 8:00am.
    • CLEANLINESS: Clean up after self is essential. Bathroom use in GPH is limited to the last stall, sink, and shower. Likewise, housekeeping will be limited to one visit per week of break housing. Maintenance needs or emergencies should be directed to Public Safety.
    • GUESTS: No guests permitted in housing between 10:00pm and 8:00am.
    • ALLOWING OTHERS IN HOUSING: Allowing other residents into the halls is not acceptable. Students who have been granted permission to be in the residence halls either during part of break or early for opening should not hold the door for other students or allow them into the halls. Likewise, if your roommate/ suitemate return early, they are not allowed into the halls until housing re-opens.
    • PASSES: Housing passes should be on students at all times and presented to staff when requested.
    • DINING CENTER: The Dining Center is closed. Thomas students, as part of their board, have not paid for this service as the residence halls have traditionally been closed.
    • HOUSING FEE: Please note that there is a nightly charge for staying in housing over any part of the break. This will be applied to your bill through SFS at $30.00/night, $174/week. If you are on campus for an athletic or academic requirement, this fee can be waived.

Violations of Break Housing Guidelines or Student Handbook Policies:

    • Failure to adhere to Break Housing guidelines or Student Handbook policies will result in a loss of break housing privileges for the following break requested or up to one semester, depending on the violation, as well as judicial action where appropriate.
    • If situations arise during the break, Public Safety or the Assistant Dean of Students or designee has the right to revoke Break Housing privileges and ask you to leave campus until housing re-opens.
    • Returning to housing earlier than indicated without prior arrangements or exception will result in a break housing fine/fee of $50.00.
If any problems occur during the break, you may be asked to leave for the remainder of the break, and/or will face judicial sanctions. You will be permitted back on the Sunday to end the break when everyone else returns. Please note, if you have an emergency or need any assistance during the break, you can contact the Public Safety Office at ext. 399 at any time.
  • SUMMER HOUSING POLICIES
(Addendum to Student Handbook) - Summer Housing

    1. All students wishing to apply for Summer Housing must have a minimal/zero balance with SFS in order to be accepted, must be employed or registered for academic’s full time, be registered for the fall semester, and pay all rent up front per month.
    1. Students on Residential or Disciplinary Probation, or who have a judicial history of property damage, repeated substance policy violations, or other violations are not eligible for Summer Housing (students wishing to seek an exception may do with the Assistant Dean of Students).
    1. Summer Rent payments are due prior to the start of each month.  Overdue rent payment may result in removal from Summer Housing within 5 days of payment due date.  After one reminder for payment, a check out of summer housing will be scheduled.
    1. Students wishing to apply for Summer Housing must be enrolled as a full time student for the upcoming Fall semester.
    1. Judicial incidents, regardless of level or type of incident, occurring over the Summer Housing period, may result in an immediate loss of housing for the remainder of the summer.
    1. As a courtesy to each other’s work schedules, summer conferences and others living in Summer Housing, 24-hour courtesy hours are in effect. Music and noise should be kept to a minimum, in particular, in the evening hours.  As a result, quiet hours are from 10:00pm-8:00am.
    1. You must clean up after yourself during the summer months.  Garbage should be disposed of in the dumpsters, sidewalks should be kept clean and rooms must be clean and damage free when you move out.  Any garbage found outside or gathered in a room will result in a cleaning/garbage removal fee assessed immediately to the room.  No personal or school items of any sort may be outside of rooms for any reason or stored in any room other than the one assigned to you.
    1. During times at which there are summer programs staying in the residence halls, there should be no fraternizing with these groups or conference/camp attendees.  A violation of this policy may result in immediate removal.
    1. All campus policies in the Student Handbook are in effect at all times.
    1. Guests must be signed in at all times and residents must be present if/when guests are visiting (they may not be in a room without the resident present).  Break Housing policies per the Student Handbook are in effect for the first and last week of summer housing including no guests between 10pm and 8:00am.
    1. Public Safety will be the primary contact for lock outs, emergencies, maintenance needs, etc.
    1. Due to construction needs, you may be relocated at various times throughout the summer - you will be notified in advance of these needs and will need to move accordingly.
    1. Kitchen facilities will be made available to you – these must be kept clean and free of food/debris and dirty dishes/pans at all times.  If left unclean, maintenance will be asked to clean and a charge will be assessed to all summer residents.
  • I understand that if I may be staying on campus for multiple breaks throughout an academic year, I must submit a break housing request for every break but am only required to attend one Break Housing Meeting for the first break I request housing for.
