Alfond Center Guidelines

The purpose of the Harold Alfond Athletic Center is to provide recreation and intramural opportunities to the Thomas College students. Programs and activities that promote fitness, health and wellness will be a primary focus. Competitive and non-competitive activities will serve to promote good sportsmanship, respect for self and others, and teamwork.

Recreation Staff

The staff on duty has the authority to make decisions regarding the use of space and equipment, as well as to suspend play and to dismiss individuals who display in appropriate behavior

General Rules and Guidelines

  • All users must show their valid Student/Staff ID or be a registered guest
  • All users must enter and exit through the main entrance.
  • All emergency doors are alarmed and should remain closed
  • Participants utilize all facilities "at your own risk".  Please stop by the Front Desk to sign a liability form before using the facility. This form need only be completed one time per year.
  • Food and beverages (except water) are not permitted in the Fitness Room, Multipurpose Room/Studio, Plyometrics Room and Field house
  • Alcohol, tobacco products, or controlled substances will not be permitted in the building
  • Any style of athletic shoes (except cleats or spikes) is acceptable for use. No street shoes. No black soled shoes in the studio
  • Coats, clothing, bags, equipment, etc. may not be left on the floors - please use lockers or designated storage spaces
  • Hanging on the basketball rims is not permitted
  • Skateboards, roller blades, bicycles, etc. may not be used within the building
  • Only participants age 16 and older are permitted to use the Fitness Room
  • All users of the Fitness Room will be required to sign a liability waiver before use


  • Students and staff may bring guests into the Athletic Center
  • No more than one guest may be signed in at any given time by the same person (with the exception of faculty/staff who may bring a spouse, domestic partner, and/or dependent children)
  • Hosts must accompany their guests during the entire course of their visit.
  • Hosts will be held accountable for the behavior of their guests.

Equipment Check Out

  • Members presenting their current Student/Staff ID may check-out equipment free of charge from the Front Desk
  • Borrowed equipment may NOT leave the building
  • The person signing out the equipment will be held responsible and charged for replacement of any equipment not returned or damaged
  • The Recreation Staff will provide users with nets and net posts and will assist with setting up the courts. (advanced scheduling is required)


  • Thomas College is not responsible for lost or stolen items - please do not leave valuables unattended or unlocked
  • Lockers are available on a daily basis only. Locks left on lockers after closing will be cut off and items discarded
  • Locks are available at the Front Desk and can be signed out
  • Users may use their own locks, for the day only

For Your Safety

  • Throwing items off the railing into the field house, dangling items, or hanging over the railing is prohibited.
  • All exterior doors must remain closed. These doors are alarmed.
  • Anyone injured during an activity should notify the Recreation Staff immediately.
  • Any participant who is bleeding must be removed from the event/activity until the bleeding ceases and staff approves return.
  • All users are advised not to participate in activities or use of the Fitness center if they are injured or not feeling well.
